SUMMARY:Blue Mountain - Meet the candidates
DESCRIPTION:Voters in the Town of The Blue Mountains have the chance to get up close and personal with their council candidates over the next few weeks. \nClimate Action Now Network\, Blue Mountain Ratepayers’ Association\, Blue Mountain Village Association and Blue Mountains Chamber of Commerce have combined efforts to schedule a meet the candidates series over the next several Monday nights at the L.E. Shore Library in Thornbury. In The Blue Mountains\, there is a four-way race for Mayor and seven candidates for five council seats. Deputy Mayor Peter Bordignon was acclaimed. The first meeting of the series will be held on Monday\, August 29. \nClimate Action Now Network member Rosemary Gosselin said the format was popular four years ago and they decided to continue. \n“This idea of doing these sessions came from the community. People loved the format. It was informal and we had a great moderator\,” she said. “One woman said she had never felt like she really knew who she was voting for before and that was really telling.” \nResidents attending the sessions will have a chance to ask questions in a respectful and informative environment\, which will provide the opportunity for voters to get to know their candidates. \nVeteran CBC journalist Christopher Thomas will moderate the sessions. \n“Bless his heart\, we’ve hauled him out of retirement. We enticed him out\,” Gosselin said. \nGosselin stressed the sessions will be entirely resident- and voter-driven. \n“I want it to be clear that this is for the community. This is not for our groups. We will not be the ones asking the questions. The questions will come from the floor\,” she said. \nGosselin said all but three candidates running for council in The Blue Mountains have confirmed participation and she is hoping to hear from the others soon. The plan is to feature two candidates per session. \nSix sessions have been scheduled at L.E. Shore Library (173 Bruce Street\, South).

SUMMARY:Thornbury Jazzworks
DESCRIPTION:Robert Horvath – 2022-10-28 \n  \nThe History of Thornbury Jazzworks\n\n\n\n \nTony with Dean Hollins at one of our concerts!\nBack in the spring of 2015 a group of local musicians decided to have a “jam session” as a birthday gift to Tony Bauer\, a local musician himself and a great supporter of music and musicians in the area. Tony decided to share his special gift with friends in the community and invited them to listen in. \nOn March 19th of that year\, at the L.E.Shore library\, three of these musicians shared a night of jazz with some 40 of Tony’s friends. That same night a small group of supporters convinced Tony that nights like this should continue and so was born THORNBURY JAZZWORKS. \nThe first year saw 3 evenings in the spring and another 3 in the fall featuring local musicians such as Don Buchanan\, Mike Grace\, Russ Little and David Woods on instruments as diverse as Harp\, Flute\, Keyboard\, Bass\, and Drums. Sessions now include as few as two to as many as twelve musicians on stage and have had to move\, at times\, between the intimacy of the library room to the much larger hall at Marsh Street Centre. \nWe’ve expanded our events to ten a year and many more musicians have joined us including Andy Harasymczuk. Drew Jurecka\, Mike Lewis\, Dave Young\, Robert Horvath\, as well as our own Dean Hollin. \nWe also extend Thanks to our sponsors and supporters who help make our Friday evenings such a great success. Also a big thanks to all the volunteers that help make these events happen (the setup and take down crews\, the volunteers that take the tickets and arrange the food on the tables) – without each of them the events wouldn’t be possible. \nWith your support\, interest and attendance we hope to keep bringing these musicians to you for many more years.
